Page 5 Monster Bash Project
The infamous undimpled and non-T-nutted playfield was a part of this project. Believe it or not this only took about 2 hours to fix. Here is how we did it. Take a piece of poster sized graph paper and tape it to the playfield. Cut with an exacto several registration marks (I usually choose large holes in the playfield and cut them out.)
I also need to remove the T-nuts from the existing playfield and hammer them into the new playfield. I did this a few at a time. Here you can see the ones I started on the upper left of the picture.
I continue to do a few at a time. Pound out the T-nuts from the old playfield using a flat head screwdriver that is wide enough not to go into the threaded area of the T-nut but small enough to fit in the drilled hole. A tap or two will drop it out. Then straighten and prongs if necessary and pound back into the new location.
Here is the entire bottom with the T-nuts all pounded into place.
Using a pencil I carefully go and poke the pencil through the paper for every screw hole. You can see the screw holes through the paper so its really not very difficult.
After marking all the holes I transfer the template to the new playfield and after checking registration begin putting in the dimples. I use a hammer and a punch for this. It doesn't take much to make the dimple. Remember you're only making a mark so screwing the screw in is easier and so you know where to screw it in.
This finished template can now be used on as many Monster Bash playfields as need be. This goes into the Mantis Amusements resource area. I'm really going to need a bigger basement ;-) Should you wish to borrow this for a short period I could make it available for a small fee . . .
Here is a close up of the dimples and T-nuts when done.
The finished product is a dimpled T-nutted playfield. |
